Special Guest Speaker - Gordon MacDonald

Dr. Gordon MacDonald will be our keynote speaker on Friday evening (7 p.m.) at the Opening Worship Session.

Pastor MacDonald is an author, speaker, and teacher. He serves as editor-at-large of Leadership Journal and as chancellor of Denver Seminary. “I am in that stage of life,” he says, “when I feel the call to be a spiritual father to a younger generation.”

Dr. MacDonald was a pastor for more than forty years, 21 of those years at Grace Chapel, Lexington, Massachusetts. He also led other congregations in New York City, Southern Illinois and Kansas. For three years MacDonald was president of Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship.

He has written 20 books and co-authored others with his wife, Gail. Perhaps his best known title has been Ordering Your Private World which won the Gold Medallion and the Platinum Awards from the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association.  He writes regularly for Leadership Journal and also writes a monthly column which appears on the LeadershipJournal.net website. A Resilient Life was released in early 2005.  More recent books include Who Stole My Church (Jan, 2008), Building Below the Waterline (May 2011), and Going Deeper, which was released in 2011. A new book, BeScrooged, co-written with his son Mark, was published in December, 2015.

Dr. MacDonald is a former Chairman of the Board of World Relief Corporation, an NAE-associated relief and development organization. He also speaks frequently at church leadership events both in the US and around the world.

Fifty-six years married, Gordon and Gail MacDonald live in Concord, New Hampshire.

Guest Speaker - Dick Yue

Dr. Dick K.P. Yue will be opening keynote speaker at the Friday afternoon (1 pm) General Session.  Dr. Yue is the Philip J. Solondz Professor of Engineering, the Skolkovo Foundation Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Professor of Mechanical and Ocean Engineering at MIT.  He is a long-time MIT'er, having received all his degrees (S.B., S.M. and Sc.D.) in Civil Engineering from MIT. He has been a faculty member in the MIT School of Engineering since 1983.

Professor Yue served as Associate Dean of Engineering from 1999-2007 (as the #2 person in the MIT's Office of the Dean of Engineering), and was actively engaged in the overall administration of the School and in its pioneering educational and research initiatives. During that time, he was the originator of the MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) concept and its formulation and played a major role in its adoption and successful implementation by MIT. Since its launch in 2001, MIT OCW has transformed the global higher education landscape. Under OCW, MIT has published all its teaching materials - over 2,200 courses plus substantial additional learning materials - including resources for high school students. To date, MIT OCW has been translated into several major languages, has been accessed by over 100 million educators and learners worldwide, and has inspired and launched an international consortium (more than 200 institutions of higher learning from 47 countries) devoted to open educational resources. Finally, the introduction of OCW laid the foundation for the potentially revolutionary educational impact of today's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

Dr. Yue uses the OCW model to spark ideas for Christian education, training, and evangelism. The new global generation is heavily influenced and connected by the Internet, and the church must seize this opportunity to think and act creatively and generously to reach the world with the Gospel.

Dick and his wife Eva have four children: Kevin Paul, Teresa Grace, Emily Joyce, and Brian John. The Yues reside in Weston and Falmouth, Massachusetts where they have been a part of Cape Cod Church since its earliest days meeting in a storefront.

Conference Visionary - Clive Calver

Clive Calver will speak on the vision of Thrive and inspire attendees to action at the Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.) Closing Worship Session.

Pastor Calver is well known both in England and America as an evangelical leader, instructor, author and worldwide speaker. Through the early 1970s, he founded and led the groundbreaking mission group “In the Name of Jesus” (ITNOJ) as well as English Youngsters for Christ, and was a founder of the Spring Harvest group of Christian Conferences in England. From 1983 to 1997, he led the Evangelical Alliance of the UK, serving as the primary spokesman for the British evangelical movement and appearing frequently on BBC as well as American news shows.

Clive served as the President of World Relief, a worldwide charity dedicated to empowering local churches to serve the most vulnerable, from 1997-2005. From 2005-2016, he was the Senior Pastor of Walnut Hill Community Church in Bethel, CT, a church heavily involved in serving the Newtown, CT community following the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. He has authored more than 20 books, including Alive in the Spirit  (2006) and Dying to Live (2009).

While leading the Evangelical Alliance of the UK, Clive was part of the widespread renewal of the Church across England that came in part through Spring Harvest, an ongoing series of yearly gatherings of England's evangelical Christians - an initiative on which THRIVE Cape Cod is loosely modeled.

Guest Speaker - Kevin Eloy

Pastor Kevin Eloy will be the Keynote Speaker at the Closing Worship Service (2:15 pm on Saturday).  Kevin is the founding pastor of theCause Church in downtown Hyannis.  He started theCause with a Vision of "Connecting the hopeless to purpose in Christ."

The heart and soul of theCause Church is to introduce and connect people with the living God. As a local church they are a community of everyday citizens, seeking to embrace their city and nation with the love, hope and goodness of a compassionate and faithful God.

Kevin was born and raised in Barnstable, where, at a very young age, he realized God's calling on his life. His passion is helping people connect to the living God and realize their potential in Him. He believes the revival that will soon take place is greater than any one church. The revival will be about the Kingdom. There is a grace revolution getting ready to sweep our cities, and as a result, the Gospel will increase exponentially and change our world.

Kevin is married to the love of his life, Susan, and they have a cockapoo named Sophie.
